2018 NAMI-NYS Educational Conference

NAMI-NYS is excited to share with you the details of our 2018 Education Conference -Moving Forward: Identifying and Advocating for the Latest Breakthroughs in Research and Treatment of Mental Health Issues and Neurobiological Disorders.

The conference will feature national leaders in mental health research, treatment, service delivery and advocacy who will provide attendees with the tools needed to understand how the treatment of psychiatric disorders is moving  forward. Key topics disseminated at the conference will include identifying various types of community-based mental health services, the importance of family engagement in recovery, how to communicate the need for treatment to people who refuse treatment or don't recognize their illness, suicide prevention strategies, how NAMI-NYS can serve as community partners as well explore key advocacy issues such as mental health housing and insurance parity.

This year's agenda features several new elements, increased sessions, new special focus sessions and will provide attendees more options than ever before.

We look forward to seeing you and learning together at the conference!!!

We are thriled to include a special performance of Every Brilliant Thing. The one person play strikes a delicate balance between sobering loss and cathartic laughter as the protagonist recounts a life lived in the shadow of suicide. The play will be performed by Lori Schneider, Executive Director of NAMI Sullivan County, who performed the show throughout the Mid-Hudson Valley and Catskill region during Mental Health Awareness Month.

A review in the Middletown Times Herald Record states: "Everything about this production, directed and starring Lori Schneider, is indeed brilliant...Schneider knows her subject well, and she offers it in a manner that is both engaging and witty."
