2016 Innovation Summit 

Register now to for the 2016 Innovation Summit and meet leaders from all over Alaska interested in innovative solutions for our economy. The Innovation Summit is an annual event produced by the Juneau Economic Development Council to foster collaboration, productivity, and prosperity in our Alaska communities. It is an event that brings together hundreds of business owners, NGO members, government employees, policymakers, thought leaders and more to shape the economic future of Alaska. WHAT TO EXPECT THIS YEAR:

  • Presentations and Engagement with thought leaders in Economic Development 
    • Dr. Christian Ketels, a Harvard Business School professor and President of The Cluster Initiative, will discuss the importance of clusters as a tool to increase regional competitiveness 
    • Michael Shuman, an economist, attorney, author and entrpreneur, will discuss how innovative, self-financing enterprises can grow jobs and prosperity
    • Karen Pittman, President and CEO of the Forum for Youth Investment, will discuss collective impact and how people from different sectors can come together to address complex issues. Come learn about the ROI on investing in our youth.  
  • Innovation Shorts -- dynamic 10-minute presentations with stimulating ideas from colleagues and professionals that are making a difference
  • Celebration of entrepreneurship with the NEW Entrepreneur 'Pitch in the Morning' Breakfast 
  • Announcement of Haa Aani's Path to Prosperity Winners 
  • Opportunity to make new partnerships 
  • Engagement with industry clusters from our region 
  • Innovation Lounge where you can network with other business and civic leaders from around Alaska

NEW ADDITIONS TO THE 2016 INNOVATION SUMMIT:

Entrepreneur 'Pitch in the Morning' Breakfast: This is an exciting new element to the Innovation Summit. Selected entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to pitch their business ideas in front of Innovation Summit attendees. The best pitches will be awarded with cash prizes from sponsors AND contributions from the audience.  Everyone is welcome. Buy one $10 ticket to vote (100% of the funds raised will be added to our initial cash prize amount).  

Innovation Laboratories: We will be taking a different spin on the usual Cluster Working Group sessions by encouraging more cross-industry collaboration.  

INNOVATION SUMMIT FAVORITES: 

This year we are offering four simultaneous Cluster Tours and Experience Downtown! outings. Spots are limited so sign up upon registration to reserve your seat!

CLUSTER TOURS -- February 8th, 8:00AM-11:45AM:

Cluster Tours will take place on February 8th from 8:30AM – 11:00AM. Registration begins at 8AM and buses will leave Centennial Hall promptly at 8:15AM. Tours are limited to 30 participants, so sign up early to reserve your space.  This event is free but please let us know upon registration which tour you're interested in.  

Visitor Products Cluster Tour -- This exciting tour starts at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center to learn about how Juneau's popular tourist attraction manages over a million visitors every year and plans to become more sustainable using renewably powered electric vehicles.  The second part of the tour will be at the completed Walter Soboleff Center.

Renewable Energy Cluster Tour -- Learn how Juneau gets its power and maintains its grid. Visit the Gold Creek Building, where Alaska Electric Light & Power houses four diesel generators and hydro turbines. The second stop includes the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center (see above). 

Research & Development Cluster Tour -- We'll be heading to NOAA Ted Stevens Marine Research Institute - Alaska's largest fisheries research facility -- for a behind-the-scenes tour. The second part of the tour will be at the Pacific Northwest Research Station. 

Ocean Products Cluster Tour -- This tour stops at Alaska Glacier Seafood's 10,000 square-foot waterfront processing facility near Auke Bay where you will learn how the company is working towards full utilization of the resource. The second part of the tour will be at DIPAC. Dress warm!

EXPERIENCE DOWNTOWN! -- February 9th, 6PM-8:30PM

This year we invite you to experience Downtown Juneau! Select from three Juneau favorites and enjoy drinks and heavy h'oeuvres.  Please select ONE of the options listed below. The Experience Downtown event immediately follows the Closing Ceremony and is a strong finish to the 5th Annual Innovation Summit. We only have 50 spots available for each location so please let us know which one you'll attend at the time of registration.
