Workshop description
When Black and White (B&W) photography transitioned into the digital age, once again, it came to the forefront of creative imagemakers' attention. The ongoing relevance and sheer beauty of B&W has led many people to request a workshop like this one and to give their input regarding what they'd like to see in that B&W workshop. Many of their suggestions went into the design of this workshop.
Three things help make strong B&W photos. The right tools, the right techniques and a unique way of seeing. This workshop will help participants develop all three.
Agenda
On the first afternoon there will be a short introductory presentation followed by a field trip in the adjoining neighbourhood of the vibrant Kensington Market area. Detailed guidance will be provided to help you find and compose subject matter that looks good in black and white.
During the next day, there will be demonstrations of various methods and workflows used to process colour RAW files into B&W images. Then using your own files you'll be guided step by step through those methods with the help of the instructor; there will be time for everyone to work on their own images.
N.B. The demonstrations will show the possibilities when the combined power of Lightroom, Photoshop and some of the NIK software suite are used to shape our photographs. Guidance and feedback will be offered throughout the workshop. You don't need to know Photoshop or NIK software to participate, only a basic working knowledge of Lightroom is required. Due to time constraints, image reviews and detailed critiques will be brief.
