This program will be divided into two phases: a didactic presentation by Dr. Wyche, followed by an informal dialogue among attendees . Dr. Wyche will talk about the need to educate and train clinicians, specifically psychoanalysts and psychoanalytically-oriented therapists, about racism in the clinical setting. He will discuss historical reasons for its absence in psychoanalytic theory and practice. His focus will be on demonstrating how unconscious expressions of racism and micro-aggressions in the clinical setting, at best, compromise the work of therapy and, at worst, cause harm to patients. This program is intended to serve as an introduction to this sensitive topic as well as an agent of change for attendees.
PRESENTER: Samuel P. Wyche, Jr.
