Celebrate Adolescent Wellness at the Winter Blues!
A fun evening where talking about mental wellness is easy, with refreshments, and the Winter Blues band. This year the Winter Blues theme is 22. We know that all youth educated with coping skills and knowledge benefit through:
- better people skills
- achieving at a higher level
- greater enjoyment of life
Why is the theme 22? In wellness research, the number needed to teach to prevent one case of depressive disorder is 22.
There is much to celebrate:
- our iGROW peer mentors were recognized for 'Teen Leadership in Suicide Prevention' at the State House
- we collaborate on peer mentor program content with Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and with the Wellesley Rotary Club
- curricula we facilitate are now used by 4,000 kids annually in schools
- all children old enough to read may now access the wellness exercises directly (www.mspp.whyville.net)
AGENDA:
6:00pm - Live blues music with bites, beverages and conversation
6:45pm - Nadja Reilly, PhD, on prevention programs in use at home, communities and schools
6:55pm - Joe Gold, MD, on what's new in depression prevention
