The Public Health Side of Rural Transportation Safety 

The National Center for Rural Road Safety (Safety Center) will be hosting a FREE, 1.5 hour online training event.

This Safety Center sponsored webinar will explore the public health side of rural transportation safety. In this unique webinar, the Safety Center will host a question and answer roundtable with four experts that represent different facets of the public health side of rural transportation safety. These roundtable experts include:

 Joe Marek, Clackamas County, OR Engineer

  • As a county engineer, he included public health in their local safety plan

 Sallie Clark, El Paso County, CO Commissioner and NACo President

  • As a county elected official, she has developed NACo’s Safe and Secure Initiative which focuses on counties’ capacities to enhance public safety and public health

Howard Hedegard, Highway Safety Specialist, Injury Prevention Center, Children's Hospital at Dartmouth

  • As a highway safety specialist, he has a lead role in NH’s teen driver peer to peer program including issues such as seat belt use and distracted driving
Robert Morones, Injury prevention program at Indian Health Service
  • As an injury prevention specialist at the Indian Health Service, he is an expert at assisting Tribes with their traffic safety and injury prevention programs
