PD Workshop

July 27-28, 2015 

Based on the research and analysis in McREL's popular Classroom Instruction That Works with English Language Learners book, this two-day professional development workshop will help all teachers—mainstream and ELL specialists—apply effective research-based instructional strategies to the five stages of language acquisition.

The workshop shows how to develop students' oral academic language during subject-matter instruction, using McREL’s Academic Language Framework. It also provides tips for teaching, and offers lesson examples aligned to the Common Core State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards. Participants will leave the workshop knowing:

• Instructional strategies that enhance student achievement
• The stages of second language acquisition and their instructional implications
• Strategies for engaging English language learners in K–12 mainstream classrooms

Tuition
$349 per person. Registration includes handouts, materials, lunch, and snacks on each day of training, as well as a copy of the McREL book Classroom Instruction that Works with English Language Learners.
