Interactive Storytelling & Emergent Literacy, Level 1
Storytelling to build literacy skills and support student engagement
4-Hour Professional Development Session:
Earn a CUNY Certificate of Completion and CTLE Credit for Professional and Level III Teaching Assistant certificate holders.
This workshop will introduce the Early Learning Program’s signature drama strategy: Interactive Storytelling. Through a mixture of demonstration, practice, and reflection, participants will collaborate to learn a story, expand upon it, and add points of participation - both verbally and physically.
Who should attend? Educators and early childhood practitioners interested in tapping into their own creativity and exploring alternate ways to activate their literacy instruction.
Led by Helen Wheelock, Director of the Early Learning Program. Light refreshments provided.
What our participants are saying about 2018 Professional Development sessions at CAT:
“The whole workshop was full of "aha" moments! I will be applying all that I learned into making literacy more interactive in the classroom." (2018 Participant)
“Aha!” Moment: “Realizing the depth of what is involved with the engagement of students in a 'simple' ten minute story. Reading along with students brings life and meaning into what has, in my experience, always been presented as a drab and boring activity. Not having to 'stick to the script' brings out the best in us.” (Teacher’s Assistant, “Interactive Storytelling Parts 1 & 2” Participant)
