Drama Across The Curriculum
Interactive Drama Strategies for History and Social Studies.

4-Hour Professional Development:ELTA imagination

Earn a CUNY Certificate of Completion and CTLE Credit for Professional and Level III Teaching Assistant certificate holders.

In this workshop, participants will practice drama activities to engage with stories, characters, and events at the heart of history, civic, and social studies. Activities explored during the session, such as still picture, mystery in the bag, and role-play, can provide students with:

  • perspective on pivotal moments for historical characters and events
  • fully embodying lessons for retention rather than simply hearing them
  • tools for processing key concepts and ideas through inquiry
  • critical and reflective skills for informed decision-making as a global citizen

The workshop will focus on building facilitation strategies to support whole group engagement,  encourage and incorporate young peoples’ responses, adjust work across age groups, and reflect on further strategic application.

Who should attend?
Educators interested in exploring a new outlet for engaging their students.

Led by Helen Wheelock, Director of the  Early Learning Program. Coffee and tea provided.

What our participants are saying about the Drama Across the Curriculum Professional Development session at CAT:

“Not only have I incorporated some of these strategies in my reading lessons, but also in my science and Social Studies lessons, too.”

“I have learned strategies that I can implement in other areas besides literacy, for example, during math critical thinking to solve word problems.”
