AIA EKC Project Tour-Historic Fayette County Courthouse

AIA East KY is pleased to offer our members an opportunity for continuing education (1.5 AIA LU) in conjunction with a tour of the recently renovated Historic Fayette County Courthouse.

In this program, Carter Scott, AIA, of KNBA Associates Architects will guide attendees through the completed project and describe the process of collaborating with Deborah Berke Partners on the complete exterior restoration and interior renovation of one of one of the most prominent and architecturally significant landmarks in downtown Lexington. Attendees will observe how the original character of the building was preserved while it was simultaneously updated for a new mix of uses. Additional learning objectives include:

  • Observe the various economic and environmental benefits associated with historic preservation.
  • Discuss the importance of interdisciplinary planning efforts when utilizing historic preservation to address critical issues in urban renewal.
  • Review the challenges in modernizing a 100+ year old building with the latest technologies in lighting, data, and mechanical systems for the next century.
  • Explain how evolving owner partnerships on private/public projects may affect program, delivery methods, budget, and scope of work in a high-profile project in the core of downtown.

SOCIAL OUTING: Attendees are encouraged to gather at the Thirsty Fox, in the first level of the Courthouse, immediately following the conclusion of the tour.
