Presented by Shawna Rodgers, Rutgers University

Thursday, May 14, 2020
Networking, Registration, and Full Breakfast 8:00 - 8:30am
Program 8:30 - 9:30am

Knowing how to work the room at an event rewards you with an immediate return on the investment of your time by making your networking count whether you are connecting with current or prospective donors. This session will provide the tools and techniques needed to make the most of your next networking opportunity, including managing first impressions, maximizing small talk, and effective mingling and etiquette. Whether you typically host events or are just attending, the session will help you maximize your next networking opportunity.

Learning outcomes: As a result of attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Perform a pre-event checklist and a small talk development sheet to prepare for events and networking opportunities.

  • Demonstrate effective event mingling techniques including breaking in and entering a group conversation and how to tactfully exit a conversation.

  • Recognize appropriate behavior when making introductions, giving and receiving business cards, and talking about your program/organization with current or prospective donors.
