This is a one day (8 hour) training for direct service providers that focuses on the dynamics of domestic violence and Indigenizing offender accountability programming for tribal communities. This training will include information sharing, Indigenous perspectives, trauma-informed best practices, accountability defined, and safety and violence prevention for future generations. 

INTENDED AUDIENCE: Direct service providers who provide services in the area of Batter’s Intervention and those working with victims and survivors of violence and their dependent children, including but not limited to counselors, advocates, probation officers, judges, etc. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: By the end of this training, attendees and participants will:

• Have a basic understanding on what constitutes the dynamics of domestic violence, the cycle of power and control, power differentials, toxic masculinity and the distinction between immediate safety and the prevention of domestic violence in the future.
• Be able to recognize and identify the origins of violence, the early impacts of colonization on Indigenous populations, intergenerational trauma and how lived experiences shape one’s world view, attitudes, beliefs and values about violence.
• Have a working understanding of what constitutes basic human inherent rights from an indigenous perspective and how this relates to victim safety and offender accountability while being mindful of treating offenders utilizing humanistic principles.
• Be able to recognize the importance of assessing offender motivation to engage in the intervention change process.
• Be able to recognize the importance of cultural sensitivity and culturally appropriate responsiveness from a cultural humility perspective; self-reflective practice.
• Will be able to identify and define what a Community Coordinated Response looks like in response to domestic violence, victim safety, offender accountability and restorative justice.
