March 2024 Lunch Meeting

Please join us on Thursday, March 21st to enjoy lunch & a presentation on the San Luis Drive Emergency Project from Wyatt Banker-Hix, P.E., Supervising Civil Engineer at the City of San Luis Obispo and John Evans, P.E., LEED AP, Civil Senior Principal Engineer at Cannon. Come here about City's largest emergency project resulting from the January and March 2023 storms.

Presentation Background:

The City of San Luis Obispo suffered several damages during the 2022/2023 rainy season, the largest of which was 350 feet of damaged slopes along San Luis Obispo Creek adjacent to the high school. San Luis Drive, the sole means of access for 140 homes, was damaged by a landslide during the March 2023 storm event requiring partial closure of the road and threatening underground utilities nearby. The next day, the City of SLO executed an emergency repair project that involved the construction of a soldier pile retaining wall. Construction began in March 2023 and was concluded in February 2024 thanks to a design-build delivery method and a dedicated team. The San Luis Drive Emergency Project is the largest of the 15 projects that resulted from the winter storms.
