9th Annual Professional Coaches Baseball Clinic

Brent Strom and Ralph Dickenson have worked with Major League Baseball players for more than a quarter of a century. Now they are coming to Alaska to teach our boys the game.

The Houston Astros coaches are back to headline the ninth annual Professional Baseball Clinic.
The 3-day camp runs Nov. 30, Dec. 1-2 at West Anchorage High School and is open to players 9 to 18 of all skill level. There will be different stations for different age groups.

This is your chance to receive 1-on-1 instruction from elite coaches at the highest level, brought to you by the Alliance of Support of American Legion Baseball in Alaska.

Strom has been a champion at every level, winning two NCAA championships as a player at the University of Southern California and winning two World Series titles as coach with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011 and Houston Astros in 2017.  He pitched five seasons in the MLB with the Mets, Indians and Padres and holds the distinction of being just the second person to have Tommy John surgery. He also played in the Alaska Baseball League.  Strom will emphasize mechanics, repetition, training and pitch development.

Dickenson, a former American Legion coach, will show hitters proper ways to attack the baseball. He will help create bat speed, talk about launch angles and the significance of balance in the box.  Overall in his career, Dickenson has spent more than 20 seasons as a minor-league hitting coordinator or instructor with the Astros, Brewers, Dodgers, Rangers, Yankees and Nationals.  After winning the 1969 College World Series as a player at Arizona State University, Dickenson ended up as a two-way player throughout his six-year career in the minor leagues, seeing duty as an outfielder (368 games) and as a pitcher (134 appearances, 20 starts).

It’s rare for coaches with MLB experience come to Alaska. Don’t miss out.

These clinics are sponsored by the Alliance for Support of American Legion in Alaska, BP, Matson and Alaska Airlines.
