"Military Spaceplane Day: Path to a Hypersonic Air Force”
We are very pleased to announce that Colonel Colin Tucker, USAF, will lead the 15 November (Thursday) DPAAS Workshop “Military Spaceplane Day: Path to a Hypersonic Air Force.” Colonel Tucker is the Military Deputy, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Science, Technology, and Engineering, SAF/AQR. The workshop will be 8:30 am – 5:00 pm at the Holiday Inn, 2800 Presidential Drive, Fairborn, Ohio.
RECOMMEND EARLY REGISTRATION – SEATING IS LIMITED
Abstract: The objective of this workshop is to inform, discuss and provide recommendations for the U.S. Defense contractor community and the United States Air Force regarding hypersonic commercial spaceplanes and their military applications. The workshop will review the history of military spaceplanes, relevant technology maturation and the recent emergence of commercial spaceplanes leveraging many decades of government investment. Individual and corporate billionaires are rapidly maturing reusable launch systems, which inherently enable hypersonic global reach military capabilities. Combined with military “aircraft-like” operability and hypersonic boost glide vehicles, such military spaceplane systems offer global reach in under an hour, whether for launch, reconnaissance, airlift or more overt military capabilities like space protection, global engagement and deterrence. The workshop will include time for discussion and soliciting inputs from the DPAAS community. Some questions for discussion include: Should the Air Force monitor the emerging commercial spaceplane industry or take a more active role maturing the technology and demonstrating military capability? Is there a lesson for our acquisition community when SpaceX can deliver capability that our government cost models project should cost significantly more? Is it time to step up to developing a Mach 25 Air Force? Is speed the new stealth?
