A broad range of experience in government service, business and law from his work in the U.S. House of Representatives and a Presidential Appointment to the U.S. International Trade Commission to marketing, sales and corporate counsel positions in Fortune 500 companies. He currently combines those varied experiences in his educational and advisory roles to S.C. business and industry by providing counsel on competitive, free enterprise issues that arise in the legislative arena and advice on political campaigns and elections.
Tom has been active in community affairs. He has served on numerous boards and worked with or been a member of associations including, but not limited to, Governor Sanford’s Task Force on Government Restructuring and Campaign Finance Reform, American Diabetes Association, United Way, CityYear, Columbia Classical Ballet Board and the New York Bar Association. He has also served as Vice Chairman of the S.C. Conservation Bank Board, the Board of Trustees of the South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, Editorial Board of Local, State and Federal Tax Incentives for Conservation Easements, the Board of Leadership South Carolina/Clemson Institute for Economic & Community Development, the USC Board of Dance, the S.C. Education Oversight Committee Board, S.C. Lottery Commission and as Chairman of the S.C. Public Charter School District.
When he is released from the bonds of a suit and tie, he may be found in the woods and swamps, upstate mountains or coastal islands with a camera, gun, rod, mask and fins, motorcycle or some combination thereof.
