"The Future and Challenges of Early Systems Engineering in Development Planning”
We are very pleased to announce that Mr. Thomas A. Lockhart, SES, will lead the 24 May Air Force SDPE Workshop “The Future and Challenges of Early Systems Engineering in Development Planning.” Mr. Lockhart is the Director, Plans and Programs (XP) and Director, Air Force Strategic Development Planning and Experimentation (AF SDPE), Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson AFB. The workshop will be 8:15 am – 2:30 pm at the Holiday Inn, Fairborn, Ohio.

Abstract: The Air Force has welcomed new leadership this past year and with them has come a continued deep desire to change the way the Air Force has traditionally done business and developed operational requirements. As has been the case for the last few years, AF SDPE continues to be at the forefront of this evolution of capability development and remains a driving force in many of the new initiatives that are changing the Air Force culture.
These new initiatives include the Air Force Warfighting Integration Center (AFWIC), AFWERX, and the overarching shift to multi-domain thinking and operations. They are paving the way for our future Air Force. Simultaneously, these new initiatives have created the need to rethink how the Air Force plans and uses early systems engineering early-on in development planning.
This workshop will offer the opportunity to learn about the evolving development planning culture and your role, to ask questions and to provide feedback. The AF SDPE team will propose challenge questions, will discuss opportunities, and will seek your perspective on how to best utilize early systems engineering in Air Force development planning processes.
