Join a community of current and future online teachers at Foothill to explore key components of an effective online course. Lessons will include informative modules, relevant discussions, helpful exercises, peer-to-peer critique, and a project. Through the development of your own online lessons and assessments as well as feedback from your peers, you will grow in your skills and understanding of online teaching.

Some of the many topics covered are:

  • Your Preparation for Online Teaching
  • Course Design and Planning
  • Course Site Development
  • Equity: Addressing the Achievement Gap
  • Humanize Your Online Teaching
  • Maximize Student Retention
  • Communication and Student Engagement
  • Student Assessment
  • Minimize Cheating
One Important Note: This is a class about online pedagogy. Upon successful completion of class requirements, you will be eligible to apply for 18 hours of professional development participation (equivalent to 1 unit of PGA). This is NOT the Canvas training class which is required in order for faculty to teach using Canvas at Foothill College.
