Board Orientation: Helping new board members become engaged and active with Lee Bruder, MACP, ODC and Laurette Edelmann, Director of Operations, NH Center for Nonprofits.
Are you interested in becoming oriented to a new board? Are you alread a board member, on a Governance Committee, and Executive Director or CEO?
Individuals join groups differently; however, there are things you can do that will help your new board members get comfortable more quickly. Once a new group member understands the culture, expectations and procedures of their new interpersonal environment, they are more comfortable and confident in being active participants.
Participants will be able to offer responses to the following questions:
Lee Bruder, MACP, ODC, has worked as an organization development consultant for 11 years. He specializes in helping people manage growth and change and has worked in the nonprofit sector for over 4 decades. Since 1989 Lee has served on a wide variety of boards. Lee holds a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology, post graduate credits in Organizational Management, and a Certificate in Organization Development. In addition to coaching and mentoring nonprofit executives, Lee designs and facilitates, board development, strategic planning, and leadership development. He enjoys assisting companies and organizations develop high performing teams. The basis of Lee’s work lies in his love of participating in meaningful personal and organizational change.
Laurette Edelmann, Director of Operations, NH Center for Nonprofits, has been with the NH Center for Nonprofits for 8+ years. She oversees the strategic priorities of the organization, and is responsible for the Center’s operations, finance and information/referral services for board and organizational development. Laurette has worked in the nonprofit sector in NH for 18 years, with an additional 15 years’ experience in the legal, financial service and insurance industries. Her capacity building tool box has been filled with resources and strategies brought to New Hampshire by national nonprofit thought leaders such as Tom Tierney, Dan Pallotta, Ruth McCambridge, Chuck Loring, Jason Saul, Peter York, Susan Meier, and many others.
