Target Audience
This course is designed for epidemiologists, state and local health department staff who have epidemiologic training, persons in academic settngs who have epidemiologic training, persons who may become involved in detection and investigation of TB outbreaks, TB controllers and other public health workers who may experience TB outbreaks in their jurisdictions and request epidemiologic assistance.  Participants must complete the CDC Self Study Modules 19 and present a Certificate of Completion prior to acceptance into the course.

Conference Goal
The goal of this training is to provide targeted training about TB epidemiology to sufficiently equip communicable disease epidemiologists to assist TB programs with investigations of TB outbreaks. The training will also provide epidemiologic training to enable TB Controllers and other public health workers to readily participate in detection and investigation of TB outbreaks and to become familiar with their potential roles in TB outbreak response.

Conference Objectives
Using interactive lectures covering information on the detection and investigation of TB outbreaks, participants will be able to explain key epidemiologic features of tuberculosis (TB) trends in the United States; list the groups of people who are more likely to be exposed to or infected with mycobacterium tuberculosis; describe the basic process and goals of TB genotyping; utilize reallife examples to demonstrate how to use data to identify risk groups; describe demographic characteristics of TB outbreaks reported within the United States; identify components of TB investigations; describe the basic strategies for prevention and control of TB outbreaks; using a tabletop exercise, simulate an epidemiologist’s role and steps in the investigation of a TB cluster and outbreak.

Format
The format for this course will be lecturestyle presentations, case studies, and a table top exercise. There will be ample time for questions and answers.
