GENDER BIASES IN THE WORKPLACE AND HOW
TO AVOID THEM

Until recently, the stalled gender revolution in business was a relatively hidden fact and discussing it was controversial, if not taboo. Then Sheryl Sandberg published her book Lean In, bursting the bubble of denial
and legitimating public discussion of the continued hurdles and biases faced by women in the workplace.

What is the nature of these hurdles and biases, and what can women and their companies do to avoid and overcome them? In this discussion-oriented session, Jennifer Berdahl from the Sauder School of Business will outline the main forms of gender bias that continue to operate at work and explore strategies for avoiding their negative impact on you and your work environment.

About Jennifer:

Professor Jennifer Berdahl, Ph.D. is an international leader in the study of gender and ethnicity in organizations and is the first to hold the Montalbano Professorship in Leadership Studies: Women and Diversity at UBC’s Sauder School of Business. Jennifer, who joined Sauder from the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management, has studied the treatment of women, men and minorities in the workplace for over 20 years. Her research and opinions have led to roles as a courtroom expert witness and advisor to Canadian Parliament, and have shaped public opinion through frequent mentions in media and bestselling books.
