Target Audience
The target audience for this course is public health department nurses and staff who are tasked with identifying and managing contacts to a known TB case.

Format
The format for this conference will include lecture presentation with case scenarios and audience discussion. There will be ample time for questions and
answers.

Conference Goal
The goal of the training is to increase the knowledge and skills of the public health department nurse and staff in order to effectively identify, evaluate, and treat a contact to a known TB case .

Conference Objectives
Using interactive lectures participants will be able to:
Describe the current TB epidemiology of the world; US and the Heartland Region; identify the TB diagnostic process; discuss current recommendations for the medical management of active TB; discuss the monitoring process of antiTB drugs; discuss nursing interventions for common adverse drug toxicities and side effects; conduct a thorough nurse assessment to develop care plans and make community referrals for successful completion; identify the  components of a TB contact investigation; describe the Interferon Gamma
Release Assay; identify the key points of the updated CDC guidelines for using IGRAs to detect TB infection and TB disease; review recommendations and options for treating LTBI in the US; and discuss the effect of treatment duration on completion rates.
