Ask a Question Save a Life: How to Help Someone Contemplating Suicide
Melanie Hale
Room 3401
11:20 am - 12:30 pm

This workshop is designed to teach life-saving skills known as QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer).  This training is not a form of counseling.  QPR training will teach you practical skills for saving lives and is easily learned. You will learn how to recognize warning signs, question a person about suicide, persuade the person to get help and refer the person to the appropriate resource.  Upon completion, participants will become a certified suicide prevention gatekeeper and receive a QPR certificate.

Social Networks, Racial Inequality and the Role of Foothill College
John Fox
Room 3402
11:20 am - 12:30 pm

This is a workshop for both classified staff and faculty.  Many people get hired at jobs from recommendations from friends.  John will explain how segregated social networks (along racial or income lines) may create hidden systematic biases in hiring practices and job opportunities.  He will also explore potential solutions we can accomplish here at Foothill to mitigate this bias.  p.s. This workshop is not about Facebook.
