"Inclusive Classrooms for Children with Asperger's Syndrome and High-Functioning Autism"

with Rebecca Moyes, M.Ed.

author, consultant, and international trainer

ILLINOIS DEPT. of EDUCATION CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS AVAILABLE!

tudents with Asperger's syndrome and high-functioning autism have unique challenges for educators in the classroom.  Many of these students struggle with the academic tasks of writing and completing written expression assignments,  reading comprehension, study skills, and organizational processes.  A sizeable number also struggle with social skills and emotional control.  Others have difficulty with behaviors including sensory difficulties, motivation, transition skills, impulsivity, aggression, defiance, and attention skills.  Learn practical, easy-to-implement strategies for addressing all of these and more from a former teacher who understands the barriers of limited time and meeting the needs of all students.  Rebecca Moyes has served as a consultant for many students in inclusive settings in the Pittsburgh area.  She is frequently requested as an in-service trainer for school districts in Pennsylvania and throughout the United States.   She is the author of five resource books for teachers and parents.  Most importantly she is a mom to a young adult with Asperger's Syndrome.  Rebecca believes that teachers should feel empowered and competent when addressing the complex needs of these students.  This training will give you the tools to do this!  You will leave with lots of relevant information that will help you adapt your lessons and worksheets, as well as your classroom management style so that you can better serve students with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and executive function disorder.  We know you will be thoroughly engaged with all that she has to teach you, show you, and have you practice!  There will be lots of photos and video samples of strategies and supports, along with footage including actual students with autism spectrum disorder.  Make a date to spend the day with Rebecca and attend this engaging and highly effective training.  This seminar is suitable for all grade levels and strategies are adapted so that all attendees can benefit.  (8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.)
