Join Us!

The college essay is an important component of the application package. Learn how to write an impressive and memorable essay that will stand out. Walk away with insight and tips from an experienced former Assistant Director of College Admissions. In addition, receive valuable editing and writing advice from a UNH writing professor.

High school students are invited to join us this October or December for a chance to learn how to properly organize and construct the college essay.

The College Essay

What's this all about? What are important tips and factors to consider when submitting your essay? Not all colleges allow you to submit the same essay and some schools actually require personal statements that are specific to that particular institution. We will brainstorm to explore possible topics, go over current writing prompts, and discuss best practices. What should you write about? What should you NOT write about? Students will leave with a better understanding of how the college essay is factored into the overall evaluation process. By the end of the workshop, you will walk away with a completed outline and first draft.

Editing Sessions

To create a highly effective essay, students must continue refining the first draft produced during the workshop. At least two rounds of editing are recommended. We offer the opportunity to work with a UNH writing professor to fine-tune your college essay. Get constructive feedback about structure, wording, and overall effectiveness. Editing is performed via Track Changes and is communicated via email. Additional editing/tutoring sessions can be arranged.
