Cost and Inclusions

This course is free for a maximum of 25 participants. The course incudes free dormitory style accommodation at the Charles Darwin Research Station, all meals, and course materials.

Professional Benefits

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive an official Certificate of Completion issued by IGTOA and the CDF and will be included on a list of IGTOA certified guides that will be distributed to IGTOA's member companies.  

Please note:  Participants who do not attend and complete 100% of the course will not receive the Certificate of Completion or be included on the list of IGTOA certified guides.

Are you a Galapagos National Park guide who is interested in developing your professional skills, becoming a better guide, and making a difference in the Galapagos Islands? 

If so, Professor Sam Ham and Tom O’Brien, the world’s preeminent guide training experts, have developed a customized course just for you. This class will help you: 

  • Improve your interpretation skills through the development and delivery of strong, original themes.
  • Learn how to better understand the values and expectations of your guests.
  • Become a more confident leader and more effectively deal with difficult clients and situations. 
  • Improve the physical aspects of your guiding through voice projection, posture and overall presentation.
  • Be more effective at guiding in groups or as part of a team.
  • Help preserve and protect the Galapagos Islands by becoming a true ambassador for conservation.

The course, which has a market value of $2,495 per person, will be offered free of charge to a maximum of 25 guides. 

Application Instructions:

1. Click the "Register Now" button below and fill out the form on the following page. Please note, guides who are nominated by an IGTOA Member Company will receive special consideration.

2. Write a short essay (500 to 750 words) in English about why you are interested in taking this course and why you want to improve your guiding skills and email it to exd@igtoa.org. Please put "IGTOA Guide Essay" in the subject line. The deadline to submit your registration form and essay is October 15th, 2013

Please note: Registrations submitted after October 15th will be waitlisted.


3. You will be notified by email if you have been accepted to the course by October 31st.  Once you have been accepted, you will be asked to pay a refundable $300 course deposit, which will be returned to you upon completion of the course. Please note, participants who register and don't attend the entire course will forfeit their deposits.
