Human Resource Management
for Principals

School building principals have a huge responsibility in working with teachers and other personnel in schools.  We play a key role in the hiring, evaluation, and discharge of teachers and other employees. And, of course, we are frequently being relied upon to assist with various other aspects of human resource management related to workers' compensation, criminal record checks, and compensation issues.

Participants will hear directly from HR experts in the industry, share best practices with fellow practitioners and have the opportunity to get your questions answered.  Stories will be shared to give meaning to the “why” behind what needs to be done. And, most importantly, we'll leave this training with greater confidence to execute our growing human resource responsibilities.

 The following topics will be covered during this training:

  • Personnel Management - Hiring; Evaluation; Discipline; Discharge
  • Employee Wage and Benefits Issues - Family Medical Leave Act (FLMA);
  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); Workers' Compensation
  • Reporting Child Abuse
  • Criminal Records Checks Requirements for Personnel
  • Freedom of Information Act
  • Documentation and Records Retention

In addition to the above, other issues to be addressed include, building an environment of trust, providing constructive feedback, and having and documenting difficult conversations.
