2010 Walk for Sudan Sunday October 17th

2009 Walk for Sudan Participants

The 2010 Walk for Sudan will be held at Cherry Creek State Park on Sunday, October 17th from 1:00 to 3:30 pm.

The Honorable Michael Bennet, US Senate and wife Susan Daggett, The Honorable Diana DeGette, US House of Representatives, The Honorable Michael Hancock, Denver City Councilman, and other elected officials are the Honorary Chairs of this exciting event, in which over 500 Africans and Americans of all ages will attend.

The Walk for Sudan aims to raise funds for projects supporting the people and country of Sudan which is recovering from 20 years of civil war. The Walk for Sudan symbolizes unity as traditional rivals come together for a common cause. Sudanese from various tribes and students from different schools and districts will all join forces with the Colorado community in a spirit of cooperation.

We Walk So They Don't Have To. In Sudan, some women and children spend up to 6 hours each day collecting dirty water from streams and ponds. The Walk for Sudan is sponsored by Nuba Water Project and raises funds and awareness to end the water crisis for people living in Sudan. By taking part in the Walk for Sudan individuals and teams support grassroots efforts and clean water initiatives that help Sudanese (both in the Denver area and in Sudan) realize their highest potential for personal, economic and social growth through self-empowerment, education, and self-sufficiency.

Mission of Nuba Water Project

Our mission is to bring a better life to the Nuba people by providing sustainable sources of clean water.

An adequate supply of water, especially potable water, is the doorway to economic and social development in the Nuba Mountain region of Sudan. By helping the Nuba solve their age-old problem of scarce water supplies, we free the people to address other pressing needs such as education, sanitation, public health and building stable communities. Our work is for the benefit of all Nuba regardless of religious or ethnic association.

Rather than delivering a handout, our guiding principle is to rely on the Nuba peoples' own spirit of independence, resourcefulness and hard work in the creation of economically sound, self-sustaining water projects.

Nuba Water Project is not affiliated with any government or religious institution. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization committed to financial accountability at all levels of our organization.
