Info for Racers!

Racers coming in the night before need a place to stay... We have a couple of options.

Where to Stay!

There are plenty of hotels to stay near by. These offer special rates for the airport and pilots. Groups rates are in the works, if the demand callas for it. They are across the street from each other.
The Hampton Inn,
1700 Rodeo Drive , 972-392-3100
and
Holiday Inn Express,
31850 Lyndon B. Johnson Frwy,
972-299-9900

An additional option will be to stay at the Microtel on Hwy 80 and Beltline, Mesquite.....very easy to get to airport from there.....on only $49.95

How to get around!

There are a limited number of courtesy cars, and rental cars can be delivered to the airport.
One Courtesy car will be available exclusively for the race.  Car pooling to the hotel and around will work best.

Or...

Call Hertz for a car.  Their direct number in Mesquite is 214-660-4024.
Hertz will write up an agreement over the telephone and deliver the car to the airport so it is here waiting upon arrival to KHQZ.   Be advised you must call the local number as the 800 number for Hertz will not honor this arrangement.

Mesquite Metro Airport is on the outskirts of the Dallas Metroplex, so anything you want can be easily found.

The Sulphur Springs/ Mesquite 130 Air Race

What is the Sport Air Racing League?

Racing For The Rest Of Us!!  Race 22

The Sport Air Racing League exists to promote open course air racing for experimental and production aircraft.

The concept is to provide a safe race environment for all aircraft without the risk and expense of Reno Style Pylon Air Racing.

All of our races are open course cross country air races where we follow all the FARs and AIMs rules, but still have a fun competitive race. Many have likened it to a Poker run where no one stops, and youre racing against the clock, and the other racers in your class.

It's a fun safe way to use your airplane for more than just work or $100 hamburgers.

It doesn't violate the rules of your insurance policy.

It's not bad for your airplane or engine.

It's low in fat and won't cause weight gain!

One word of warning. It's most fun you've had in a plane since your solo... this makes it horribly addictive. If you enjoy flying, you'll love the comaraderie and competition of the Sport Air Racing League.

The Courses!

Race 26

There will be two courses to race.

The primary course will consist of 8 turns over 141 NM. This will be for most all aircraft both factory built and experimental.

The secondary course is for slower aircraft with a more limited range. The second course is ideal for Taylor Craft, Luscombes, Cubs, LSA, etc... that might not be able to make the full course in a reasonable amount of time, or perhaps for planes without the range to complete the primary course at full power.

See details of the courses below.

The Primary Course!

HQZ SLR 141 Race Course A

This race will take you through the beautiful scenic East Texas heartland over 141 miles and through 8 fun turns. Shorter legs mixed in with longer ones will make for lots of navigating fun, and an opportunity to catch up to faster planes that are not flying a good race. This race may lead to some fun upsets in the speed department, and that may get you past your foe.
All but two of  the turn points will be over airports and will be easy to find on your GPS. The two visual turns will be obvious and locatable from 10 + miles out.
As with all the SARL sanctioned events we will follow all FARs and AIM guidelines, and will hold a safe, fun, and hot race.

The Short Course!

HQZ SLR 73 Course B

This race course will take you on a shorter tour of the beautiful scenic East Texas heartland over 73 miles and through 5 fun turns.
All but one of  the turn points will be over airports and will be easy to find on your GPS. The one visual turn will be obvious and locatable from 10 + miles out.
As with all the SARL sanctioned events we will follow all FARs and AIM guidelines, and will hold a safe, fun, and hot race.
