Alumni Lunch Reception

Join fellow Chicago Center for Urban Life and Culture alumni for lunch to learn more about each other and the new and exciting endeavors of Chicago Center.

Highlights of the luncheon:

-Building Dedication with founders of Chicago Center, Don and Eunice Schatz, Phyllis Cunningham: we have purchased a new student housing facility in Hyde Park!

This year, we at Chicago Center are witnessing an organizational renaissance—the birth of a new era.  On December 21, 2009, Chicago Center closed on a new student housing facility in Hyde Park, just steps from Barack Obama’s Chicago home.  With the capacity to hold 30 students in three spacious flats, ample common space for a study lounge, game room, laundry facilities, and classroom, this building feels like the realization of a dream, and avenue to new possibilities.  The building has earned the affectionate moniker, “The Boulevard” and is home to 28 students.  Each floor of “The Boulevard” has been named after a founder of Chicago Center and we are honored to have them at the alumni luncheon to participate in dedicating the building with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

-40th Anniversary Book presentation:   Chicago Center’s 40th Anniversary coffee table book includes the stories of 20 alumni from 1970-2010 as well as reflections from founders, current and former staff members, and lots of photos.  Co-authors Phil Schmidt and Ashley Holloway will present the creative and research process that led to this powerful retrospective of Chicago Center’s 40-year history.
