In line with the motif of this newsletter - HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all Boathouse Dads on June 20th!

Welcome to our many Collegiate Summer enrollees! The SDRC is glad to have your youth and talent  in our Bays and on the water.

Don't miss a Thursday GARTY PARTY!  Good racing, food libations and camaraderie.

SDRC's Starting Line for June 2010

Dear SDRC'ers, Family Members and Friends:

Here is 2010's NEWSGRAM # 4 to share key information, planning events for this Month, and notable SDRC Community items.

 * Please keep your feedback loops working (for good and bad observations).  Your Directors and Club employees are quite capable - yet NOT clairvoyant nor always present.

Please help them help us.

Thanks as always, for helping our Club prepare for it's next 125 Years!

Honor our Past, Execute in the Present, Anticipate our Future.

Answers to More of your Great Boathouse Questions:

Question 1.

How many young and not-so-young revelers show up for a typical GARTY PARTY on Thursday nights?

Answer: Sonja, Dave J and Oscar put on the best all-you-can-eat-and-drink deal in town for only a suggested $5.00 donation.  An average of 30 revelers take advantage of this great deal. [ We plan to continue this weekly event into the fall season].

Question 2

Whom do we contact to reserve a date for a GARTY Pavilion event?

Answer:  Dan Ohaks is our point of contact. Do plan ahead to ensure the date you want can be reserved for you!

Question 3:

When is our next Olympic Colloquium?  What is the expected topic?

Answer: We plan to hold our third Colloquium in the late July / early August time frame.  As our key Masters Sprint Races approach - it will help all of us to know more about optimal rigging and some micro-coaching tips.  Thus the planned theme is "Your Rigging and Race planning".

Question 4:

Are City Council member, Kevin Faulconer, and his staff  addressing some of our reported issues on El Carmel Point?

Answer:  Refreshingly - Yes!

Sand in the public parking lot, our tenant responsibilities, recycling bins, parking lot thefts, itinerant  / homeless problems and the public restrooms are all being addressed.

Question 5 (repeat):

Is there a Summer Cleaning Day @ the Coggeshall Center?

Answer: Yes and No. We plan to have TWO Field Days (in the military sense).  Your volunteer efforts on either / both Saturday and Sunday (June 19 and June 20) mornings are needed to address our lengthy boat/blade, exterior and interior work lists.  Hunter Butler, John Read,  Chris Feuge and Mark Davis are our main battery for planning and conducting this important Club effort.

Stay tuned for Boathouse flyers and your personal "e-vites".

Question 6:

Some of our Members reached their Tax Freedom Days in May. {That is the nominal day when a taxpayer is past the point of paying for Federal and State "benefits"}.  What is the minimum amount  that the SDRC will accept for a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible contribution?

Answer:   A great query and thanks for asking!

As a SCORE - San Diego counselor reminded us - one reason that non-profit corporations exist is to offer charitable causes that members and others may passionately support.

So your Club will accept any donation at any time (and provide a charitable donation letter  for totals over $25.00 in a tax year).

A Focus FIVE from the Engine Room:

1.  Good luck  to the Juniors' 4X (men and women) and 1X (women) scullers for success at the Jr. Nationals in Cincinnati next week.

2.  As our Bay gets more congested this summer season - please remember to get the "CF" registration number for rude or unsafe boaters that "wake" you or make your workout less enjoyable.  After you report the violation - please record the event in our Safety and Incident Log.

3.  Why not invite a co-worker / neighbor or acquaintance to Saturday's National Learn to Row Day (6/5)?

Your Club has the capacity to host many more Members - let's help Andy's Membership Committee recruit new Masters and Juniors to our unique sport!

4. Do take a moment to enter every Repair request in our Log situated on the "podium". Walter and Art are very good but they aren’t mind readers – so do let them know when a scull or shell isn’t up to par.
