Institute Description: This institute will provide an overview of sensory integration and sensory processing disorders. Participants will learn how sensory integration plays an important role in student’s learning styles as well as the challenges that confront the student with sensory processing disorders in the school setting. Participants will learn practical strategies for supporting participation of these students in school. Collaborative practices will be explored as a critical component to facilitating student success in inclusive settings. Through content presentation, facilitated group discussion, supported online sharing and collaboration experiences, participants will:
Institute Requirements: This institute includes 6 days of on-site instruction, eight or more hours of on-line learning, and completion of a project in the fall. Institute participants must attend all sessions and complete all course requirements in order to participate and receive 67.5 PDPs. No partial credit will be given. Optional undergraduate and graduate credit is available for a fee through Fitchburg State College.
Dates: July 13 – July 16 (8:30 – 4:30), September 25 (8:30 – 5:00), and November 12 (8:30 – 5:00), 2010. There will also be online participation and a project in the fall.

Current general and special educators, related service providers, and paraprofessionals who are employed in school districts that have been identified as "high-need" will be given first priority for registration. Priority will also be given to teams of two from the same building with an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant on the team. Beyond these priorities, participants will be accepted on a first -come, first -served basis. Individual registrations will be considered. Applications received prior to June 7, 2010 will be notified of acceptance into the institute on or before June 7, 2010. Applications received after June 7, 2010 will be notified of acceptance on a rolling basis until the institute is fully enrolled.
