Abstract: The world’s center of gravity of olefins production has shifted away from the “Old Gulf” (of Mexico), to the “New Gulf” (Arabian/Persian). This trend has been long foreseen, but is coming to fruition. At the same time, a major source of competitive advantage in petrochemicals, feedstock access and cost, is moving in unexpected directions. This talk will address the implications of these shifts for North American petrochemical production, especially for the major derivatives of ethylene: polyethylene, ethylene oxide & glycol, and PVC, including such issues as:
Speaker bios: John Stekla, Director of Ethylene Studies, CMAI. John joined Chemical Market Associates, Inc. (CMAI) in 2007 as a Senior Consultant in Olefins, focusing on the North American ethylene market. John comes to CMAI with over 25 years of in-depth industry experience. His responsibilities include contributions to the monthly Monomers Market Report and the annual World Light Olefins Analysis. Prior to CMAI, John had a distinguished 27-year career with Chevron, during which time he served in sales and sales management roles at several Chevron companies in the Americas and Europe. John graduated with an MBA from the Univ. of Connecticut, and holds a BS in Chemistry from Clarkson College of Technology.
Tison Keel, Director, Ethylene Oxide and Derivatives, CMAI. Tison joined Chemical Market Associates, Inc. (CMAI) in 2008 as a Director of Ethylene Oxide and Derivatives. Tison brings to CMAI over 25 years of in-depth industry experience within the ethylene oxide and glycols product family. He recently revised and published the 2010 World EO & Glycols Analysis, and is now in the process of starting up a new Global Ethylene Oxide & Glycol service for CMAI. Prior to CMAI, Tison started his career at Union Carbide, which was acquired by The Dow Chemical Company. During his more than 25 years at these companies, he was based in North America and Asia. His industry experience includes product management, sales and sales management, and marketing for such products as ethylene glycols, ethanolamines, ethoxylated surfactants, ethyleneamines, vinyl acetate, and many more derivatives. Tison holds an MBA from the Stern School at NYU, and a BS in Chemistry from Vanderbilt University.
