Capitol Hill is locked in partisan gridlock. The democratic process, historically dependent on lively political discourse, has become stymied with harshness, anger, and intransigence. Fear, loathing, and outrage have become the common currency within the Beltway.

 Politics can devour us from within, fuel polarization and conflict or it can become personally transformative and responsive to public concerns.  When we find ways to positively respect different political differences and find common ground, we all benefit.

 We invite you to join us for an evening reflection where we will learn transformative techniques to inhabit this common ground.

This FREE event, open to members of Congress, staffers, and the Washington DC community, explores a positive way forward.  Facilitators Mark Yaconelli, Andrew Dreitcer, and Frank Rogers present concrete ways of taming the inevitable reactivity within us and transforming it into an empowered freedom that promotes personal wholeness and effective political discourse.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:

Andrew Dreitcer has directed a seminary program in spiritual guidance and spent 15 years as a Presbyterian pastor. Co-author of Beyond the Ordinary: Spirituality for Church Leaders (Eerdmans) and co-builder of Habitat-style homes, he is currently exploring spiritual practices in light of neuroscience. Andy serves as a professor of spirituality and director of spiritual formation at Claremont School of Theology and as a professor of religion at Claremont Graduate University.

Frank Rogers is a trained spiritual director and experienced retreat leader. He currently serves as professor of spiritual formation at Claremont School of Theology. In addition to his novel, The God of Shattered Glass, he has written a number of articles on spirituality, peace-making, and formation.

Mark Yaconelli has worked with teenagers and youth workers within the “Youth Ministry and Spirituality Project” exploring spiritual direction, Christian contemplation and spiritual practice as the basis of discipleship with young people. Mark is the author of four books including Contemplative Youth Ministry: Practicing the Presence of Jesus and Wonder, Fear, and Longing: A Book of Prayers.
