This year honoring workers from the Hospitality Industry
Since 1997, The Faith & Politics Institute has celebrated St. Joseph the Worker's Day with an annual breakfast, speech, and awards presentation. St. Joseph is the patron saint of workers. The Institute's annual St. Joseph Day breakfast was founded to raise awareness of the spiritual and moral issues that affect economic life in America. Members of Congress and friends of the Institute join together in recognizing national and grassroots labor leaders, business leaders, and others who work to promote fairness and dignity in the workplace. This year's program will honor and focus on the stories of those who work in the hospitality industry across our nation.
Workers in the hospitality industry prepare and serve our meals, welcome us as we travel into America's hotels and inns. Hospitality workers are housekeepers, and bellmen; bartenders and table servers; chefs and banquet hosts. They park our cars and staff our college cafeterias. They are the folks who make our business and personal travel more comfortable. They make that special night out for dinner more enjoyable. They make our vacations that much more fun. These are the working Americans who make a contribution to the life of our nation everyday.
There are important stories to share from those who work in the hospitality industry. This year we are honoring President John Wilhelm of Unite/HERE, and Jim Claus of the Tishman Hotel Corporation - both business leaders from the hospitality field as well as 2 rank and files hospitality workers to highlight the contributions of thsoe who work in this field.
