Fifteen finalist will be chosen to have their creations modeled on the runway and participate in a final round of competition at the Dining With Friends Dessert Finale.  Jack Mackenroth from Project Runway will be judging the top 15 finalist. The Design Competition is only open to the first 75 applicants who complete registration and submit the $25 ($15 for students/seniors) registration fee.  A pack of 3 T-shirts provided by HanesBrands will be distributed starting January 22nd at the Grace House location of AIDS Care Service.

Dining With Friends Design Competition

AIDS Care Service is excited to share the news of a very innovative and exciting contest for all amateur fashion designers. The competition is limited to the first 75 completed registrations so read now and get to sewing or pass this on to a friend who may already be making unique clothing!

 

We are looking for designers that share our passion for contemporary fashion and design that demonstrates respect for persons living with HIV and helps to inspire awareness about the disease.

 

In February 2010, we are giving aspiring designers the opportunity to showcase their talent on our returning DINING WITH FRIENDS FINALE. The winning designer will gain exposure for his/her talent in an upscale boutique setting and on our website, receiving a Specialty Item Gift basket and a monetary grant of $250.00.

 

Your goal is to produce an inspiring garment using three T-shirts provided by our sponsor, HanesBrands. In addition, any other materials that you use to enhance your vision must have been re-purposed from a previous item into high quality, wearable design. The repurposed items will need to be listed at time of the garment submission.

All interested applicants need to complete the attached application and submit the registration fee in order to receive their 3 T-shirts that will start distribution on January 22, 2010.

 ELIGIBILITY

·       Applicants must be 15 years of age or older

·       All interested applicants must complete the Description Form provided with the T-shirts and submit it on or before the deadline of February 19, 2010 at 5pm.

·       Your application must include an application fee of $25.00 or $15.00 for students/ senior citizens.  Checks, Money Order, or Online Visa are encouraged.

 

RULES AND OBJECTIVES

Three HanesBrand T-shirts will be distributed at Grace House on January 22, 2010 from 9-5 pm with confirmed application and paid entrance fees. The designers will have up to 4 weeks to complete a garment to be potentially modeled by a female.

 

All garments must be delivered to Grace House and submitted for judging on or before February 19, 2010 at 5pm at Grace House. The Description Form supplied at pick-up must be completed sharing the titled theme, inspiration of the garment, and designer information.

All garments submitted for this competition become the property of AIDS Care Service for public auction occurring at the DWF Dessert Finale to be used for resources for local HIV programs. All designs must be appropriate for viewing audiences of all ages.

 

Those designers chosen to compete as the top 15 finalists will be contacted on Monday, February 22, 2010.  Registered designers with paid registration fees will receive a ticket to The Dining With Friends Dessert Finale on February 27, 2010 at the Millennium Center located in Winston-Salem, NC and must be present to win.

 

CONTEST PARAMETERS

Applicants will be competing in the design and sewing of a garment of high quality, wearable styles from repurposed materials and use of 100% of all three cotton Hanes Brands t-shirts. The garment should be created to be potentially modeled by a female. Time for alterations of the garment for modeling purposes will be allowed the day of the event for the top 15 finalist selected. All 15 designs will be modeled the night of the event and judged with a winner determined by Project Runway designer, Jack Mackenroth.  It is recommended that garments are constructed to fit a size 6 female.

 

All embellishments or enhancements of the garment must be repurposed from a previous used item. Items used must be listed at time of submission of garment.

No more than $20.00 can be spent on the entire garment in addition to the 3 provide white Hanes Brands T-shirts. Items purchased must be listed at time of submission of garment and receipts could be requested.

 

An electronic photo of the final garment (both front and back) displayed on a model will be required at time of submission of garment.
