FHA and Down Payment Options

The FHA loan is a favorite among first-time homebuyers because of the low down payment and the 6% seller contributions. However, a bill called H.R. 3706 has been proposed that would modify this loan as we know it today. If passed, it would increase the minimum down payment for FHA-insured mortgages from 3.5% to 5% and reduce the allowable seller contributions to 3%. And there's more ...

Instructor BIO – Juanita McDowell
Juanita McDowell is an approved Georgia Association of REALTORs instructor, a XINNIX certified Home Loan Consultant, and a former weekly contributor to the radio show “Real Estate for Real Life” on WCLK, 91.9 FM, where she dispensed with advice and relevant information on mortgages, credit, budgeting and financial matters. In 2006 and 2007 she was featured in Mortgage Originator Magazine as one of the “Top FHA 200 Originators in the U.S.”
A degreed Engineer from Georgia Tech and a member of the Mortgage Banker’s Association of Georgia, Juanita regularly hosts workshops and teaches seminars to professional organizations and real estate offices in the metro Atlanta area. She is also a certified FDIC Money Smart Trainer. She lives in Atlanta with her husband and three sons.
