This webinar will share information about what an important and powerful tool the discovery process and other customized employment strategies can be as providers support people within day services to realize competitive integrated employment.

Learning objectives include:

Understand the expectation of HCBS settings and how it connects to opportunities for employment
Understand key elements of the Discovery process and its role in person-centered thinking and planning
Ways to implement key elements of the Discovery process to inform and explore opportunities for employment, and building relationships and community.
Demonstrate how to connect lived experiences with increased meaningful community integration.

Presenters:

Heather Larsen Mossinger

Heather Larsen Mossinger has 20+ years of professional experience working with and for individuals with disabilities. Currently she is the project lead for bringing the State into compliance with the Home and Community Based Settings Rule on the Quality Assurance team at the Utah Department of Health. Heather has been focused on advancing quality improvement in Home and Community Based programs since 2008. Heather participates in several committees and collaborations related to improving Home and Community Based Programs for Utahans with disabilities.

Tricia Jones-Parkin

Tricia has over 20-years of experience working with people with disabilities. In 2011, Tricia collaborated to craft the Employment First Language for Utah and has focused on capacity building and systems change efforts to increase the number of people employed and included in their local communities. Tricia is the Training Coordinator for the Customized Employment Training and is also the project director for Utah's School to Work Inter-agency Transition Initiative funded by the Administration for the Employment Systems Change grant.
