Prayerfully journey through three Scriptural meditations on the "Prayer over the Waters" of the baptismal liturgy, leading into a time of silent reflection and spiritual conversation, to taste again the joy of our own baptism and quicken our desire to join Christ on mission in the world.

The Rev. Doctor Gilles Mongeau was born in Montreal and raised in Ottawa. He has been a Jesuit for over 30 years, and a priest for close to 20 years. After studies in philosophy in the United States and at the University of Ottawa, he obtained the Master of Arts degree in medieval philosophy, as well as the licence in philosophy. After further studies in Toronto, Fribourg (Switzerland) and Boston, he obtained the doctorate in theology from Regis College and the University of Toronto, as well as the licence in theology from Regis College. From 2003 to 2018, he taught systematic and pastoral theology at Regis College and Centre Sèvres, the Jesuit faculty of theology in Paris. His areas of expertise are the systematic theology of Saint Thomas Aquinas and the spiritual theology of Saint Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits. He is presently the assistant to the superior of the Jesuits of Canada. In addition to his intellectual ministry, Fr. Gilles has worked in parish ministry, university chaplaincy, hospital chaplaincy, ministry to LGBTQ Catholics, and in various retreat and spiritual direction ministries.

As is our custom, the retreat will begin at 10:00am on Monday with registration and coffee, and we will have an opening presentation before lunch. We will conclude at 2:30pm on the Tuesday afternoon, following largely the same schedule as has been used in previous years.

Who can attend: This event is open to all active, paid Clergy in the York-Credit Valley Area.
What it costs: There is no registration fee; the retreat is fully funded from the Area Council budget. No-shows and groundless cancellations may be subject to charges.
