2018 Biennial Meeting and Seminar

Join the Norwegian-American Historical Association on Sat., Oct. 13 for its Biennial Meeting and 2018 Seminar on Writing History and Memoirs. Following a Nordic-inspired luncheon, NAHA will conduct its biennial business, including election of new board members.

Dr. Amy Weldon will give the keynote presentation called "Ancestors are People Too: Writing History in Images." An associate professor of English at Luther College, Weldon also teaches writing classes to adults in Decorah, Iowa.

Also speaking is the Honorable John R. Tunheim, past NAHA president and author of A Scandinavian Saga: Pioneering in New Folden Township, Marshall County, Minnesota, 1882–1905. His presentation, "Writing Local History," will encourage anyone who is interested to begin researching and writing their own local history projects.

Former NAHA editor and professor emeritus Dr. Odd Lovoll will present the afternoon session. His memoir, Two Homelands: A Historian Considers His Life and Work, was recently co-published by NAHA and MNHS Press. He will present "Writing History — Memoirs," and NAHA members are encouraged to bring their complementary copies of his memoir if they would like them signed.

Want to keep the conversation going? Following the day's programming, join us for a Members Social at Immenent Brewing in downtown Northfield (519 Division St. S., #2). Beverages are self-pay, and food may be purchased from Russel’s Traveling Kitchen food truck.

Register by Monday, October 8, online (preferred) or by phone at 507-786-3221. The cost is $45 for NAHA members, $50 for non-members, and $30 for students. St. Olaf students may attend presentations free of charge, but an RSVP is needed.
