NAHA Preservation Tour

Our tour is currently filled. Please call our office at 507-786-3221 if you would like us to add your name to a waiting list.

Join the Norwegian-American Historical Association and our team of historians as we visit four 19th-century Norwegian-American churches. While no longer used for regular worship services, these rural churches have been preserved — thanks to volunteers with a keen appreciation for their significance.

Arrive at St. Olaf College between 8 and 8:30 a.m. We'll begin a presentation at 8:30 and then set out for Hauge Lutheran Church near Kenyon. The next stop is the two churches at Valley Grove near Nerstrand and finally Trondhjem Lutheran Church near Lonsdale. The tour returns to St. Olaf by 4 p.m.

Our guide team includes Dr. Kristin Anderson, professor of art history at Augsburg College, Dr. L. DeAne Lagerquist, Professor of Religion at St. Olaf College, and NAHA Associate Archivist Jeff Sauve, along with representatives from each preservation project.

Space is limited — register by Friday, May 6. The tour will take place rain or shine, so dress appropriately for the weather conditions. Participants should be prepared to do some walking on uneven terrain.
