Import/Export for Small Business

A Free Workshop from SCORE

Description:  This workshop focuses on the practical aspects of buying/selling to global markets.  Learn the Import/Export fundamentals of how to choose a market, country product requirements, finding buyers, cultural etiquette, payment terms, required documentation and sales/marketing strategy.

With increasing demand for U.S. products in emerging markets, now may be the time to consider taking your products to international markets.  Since the National Export Initiative was enacted in 2010, many trade barriers have been removed and foreign trade agreements strengthened, creating a more level playing field for small U.S. businesses looking to export abroad.

Presenter Bio:  Ernest (Val) Mathews is a Business/Technical Solutions professional with 20+ years success driving complex engagements, pre- and post-sales support, managing sub-contractors, and developing new services in changing commercial, government, and technical markets. His responsibilities have included bid management, business cases, and business/technical risk analysis for various organizations, including small companies, large corporations, Federal agencies, and an international joint venture.

Val has worked for Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, IBM, AT&T (as manager dealing with Federal Government projects), and a Russian American telecom investment company. He was a Solutions Architect for a complex international oil and gas services project. Val is currently a mentor with the SCORE Princeton chapter.
