National Capital Region Entrepreneurs Forum with Art Medici

Art Medici

Every once in awhile, Greeting, I book a CEO for the Forum whose experiences are so diverse, and so successful, that it’s difficult to write an opening sentence that will capture it all.  Art Medici is one of those CEOs.  Among his list of accomplishments are growing companies from $22M to $40M in 4 years, $80M to $220M in 15 years, and $33M to $45M in 2 years.  He’s had some very instructive experiences at pre-revenue companies and an 8a government contractor.  He has raised money, managed through mergers and acquisitions, gone through the dot-com 90s, and survived the dot-bomb 2000s.  He’s led government contractors and commercially-focused ventures.  Through it all, Art has gained experiences from which all entrepreneurs can learn.

Arthur Medici, a Partner at the Newport Board Group, engages as a CEO advisor and experience accelerator for emerging growth companies.  For five years, he also led the Executive Development Strategies practice area for 9th Degree Advisors. Previously he was the founding investor in Internet Commerce Corporation (ICC) while CEO of Infosafe Systems. He has served ICC as CEO, COO and was a member of the Board of Directors in its final form as EasyLink Services International (acquired by OpenText) until January 2008. He completed an assignment as acting CEO for a Herndon, Virginia government contractor in June 2009.

Art was also President, CEO and Director of Logilent Learning Systems, a venture-backed California company with unique hands-on training labs for Microsoft and Cisco engineers on a certification track. After accomplishing a “right-sizing” and refocusing, he orchestrated Logilent’s exit into a combination with Toolwire, Inc., another VC-backed firm. Prior to Logilent, Art was acting President and CEO of SmartSoft, an angel-backed start-up with a focus on educational software for skill assessment and aptitude development for non-traditional learners.

Previously, he served as senior vice president of Marketing for Cable & Wireless North America. His responsibility included the overall strategy, management and direction of product development and marketing, communications, public and investor relations, and business development. He also spent six years at two operating companies of The Thomson Corporation (now Thomson Reuters) – Thomson & Thomson and Derwent North America – where he spear-headed market expansion of the intellectual property information businesses as Senior Vice President and President, respectively.

He began his career at IBM, where he spent twelve years in various sales and marketing management positions with increasing responsibility in New York and New Jersey field offices, and a focus on marketing to the communications industry.

Art earned a Bachelor’s degree from Hobart College and a Masters Degree from Columbia University Business School as well as a certificate in International Management from INSEAD. He is active in community affairs and is a former Trustee of Hobart and William Smith Colleges as well as Past-President of the Hobart College Alumni Association where he was cited for his outstanding contributions as an alumnus. Art is on the Advisory Boards of the Corporate Governance Center at Kennesaw State University, NavtechGPS, Ex Nihilo Management, Five Talents and is Chairman of CEO Junction.
