Lonnie G. Bunch, III, historian, author, curator and educator, is regarded as one of the nation’s leading figures in the historical and museum community. Since 2005 Bunch has spearheaded the campaign to establish the first national museum dedicated to African American history. As founding director he secured the five-acre site on the Mall, near the Washington Monument, for the future building.
