Where

Montreat Conference Center
Montreat, NC

What to expect:

HOUSING: If you choose to stay in housing that Central coordinates, you will stay in group accommodations with a roommate. No housing has private bathrooms, but all the lodges have comfortable common areas.

FOOD: Three meals will be provided by an outside caterer who has received rave reviews over the years. Breakfasts are shared with folks in your lodge, and one lunch is on your own.

What is Montreat like? A town AND conference center, Montreat, North Carolina, is an idyllic mountain setting in a valley along a lake. The programs will be held in a main gathering hall, while lodging is located nearby.

CHILDREN and YOUTH: There will be childcare and separate children's programming for our younger participants, during the adult program time. Youth in grades 6-12 will stay overnight together in the same lodge and engage a combination of adult and youth-specific programming.

REGISTRATION POLICIES

  • Payment is due upon registration, by credit card or check mailed to the church office.
  • Rates go up on June 30th, so that we can plan for housing arrangements. If you register after that date, we cannot guarantee you a spot in church-coordinated housing, though private housing will still be available.
  • If you need to cancel your reservation before June 30th, you will receive a complete refund. If you cancel during the month of July, you will receive a 50% refund. If you cancel after August 1st, you will not receive a refund, as we will have committed to housing at that point.

  Central's All-Church Retreat 2014

How would you re:VISION Central?

What would you like to re:JOICE about where we've come from and where we're going?

How do you hope our community would be re:NEWed?

Join us for Central's All-Church re:TREAT over Labor Day Weekend!

Our facilitator for the weekend, the Rev. Theresa Cho, will guide us through a re:CENTRALIZING process to help us remember where we've been, figure out who we are, and implement ways to bring that vision about.

But even more than our time in schedule program, this retreat is a way for us to re:CONNECT with the wider community: to re:FRESH old friendships and make new ones, too.

There will be free time to explore the beauty of Montreat's mountains, to taste the local brews in nearby Asheville and Black Mountain, or to read a book on a front porch. Join us for the annual Barn Dance that brings together young and old, and join us for moving worship and meaningful small group discussion.

New additions this year include:

  • A shorter program time on Monday morning, to allow you to get back to Atlanta earlier
  • Evening social activities in different houses
  • A non-traditional journal for you to use throughout the program and other times

If you are considering attending for the first time, please know that there will be a newcomers' orientation and that you will be accompanied throughout the retreat by an experienced retreater.

Hope to see you there!

A frequent retreat leader and current co-pastor of St. John's Presbyterian Church in San Francisco, CA, the Rev. Theresa Cho will be our retreat facilitator this year. She is nationally recognized for her work on intergenerational worship, church revitalization, and progressive church development. A graduate from McCormick Seminary in Chicago, Rev. Cho is active in all levels of the Presbyterian Church (USA), including youthconferences, women leadership conferences, Peacemaking Conferences, and General Assembly Committees.
