The Long Crawl Part 1 and Part 2--Ayden

Join us August 5 and August 19 at Quilt Lizzy Ayden for The Long Crawl, a two-part workshop using Banyan Batik's Sea Life and the Brother ScanNCut. The $125 lap size quilt kit includes the pattern, all fabrics for the top as well as SVG and embroidery files so that you can choose how to applique your turtles. You can hand applique or blanket stitch with a sewing/embroidery machine.  Each session lasts until 4 PM on Saturday afternoon.

August 5, Part 1 begins at 9 AM and focuses on prepping your fabrics.  You will, of course, need your standard sewing supplies.  Quilt Lizzy Ayden will guide you through organizing your water and sand pairs as well as cutting procedures.  You'll learn tips and tricks to make sewing curves a breeze!  Finish your quilt center during the two weeks between Part 1 and Part 2.

August 19, Part 2 begins at 9 AM.  Registrants should have their center tops assembled.  Class in this session focuses on the ScanNCut. Bring your cutting machines if you have one. We'll examine these skills:

  • fusing methods,
  • using different mats
  • scaning shapes and your quilt scraps.
Then we'll cut out the turtle parts and review the different ways to applique your turtles. For those of you using your embroidery machines to applique, Laura will show you how to use Palette 11 to design and vary blanket stitching and then how to export those embroidery files wirelessly to your machine.

By the end of Part 2, we'll add your three borders and your Long Crawl will be ready to quilt!

As usual, we will open the store at 8:30 each class session so you can set up your machine and get refreshments.  Feel free to bring a lunch or to grab a bite at nearby restaurants.

Call the store if you have any questions.  Please come by to look at the sample lap quilt.
