Online Book Discussion:
Howard Thurman's
Jesus and the Disinherited

The Most Rev. Michael Curry often quotes Howard Thurman and has called him the silent hero of the Civil Rights Movement. Michael and some of the other presenters at the 2016 Trinity Institute shared stories from Thurman's book, Jesus and the Disinherited.

This prompted a group of Trinity Institute participants at the Saint Mary's Episcopal Church site in Barnstable, MA to brainstorm about ways we could engage Thurman's book more deeply and continue our sacred conversations on racial justice.  This online book discussion is the result.

Sara T. Fry. PhD, a seasoned EFM mentor who lives on Cape Cod, has volunteered to guide our conversations and offer prompting questions. We will meet online from 7:30-8:30 pm during the six Thursdays of Lent to engage a chapter a week.

  • Feb 11 - Intro/Orientation/Preface
  • Feb 18 - ch 1 -Jesus
  • Feb 25 - ch 2 - Fear
  • Mar 3  - ch 3 - Deception
  • Mar 10 - ch 4 - Hate
  • Mar 17 - ch 5 - Love/Prologue

Space is limited to the first 20 who register using the link below. The hope is that registrants will participate in all the sessions, AND, we know life happens and participants may not be able to join all six weeks.

The link for the web conversation and instructions for how to join in will be sent to registrants.   If you would like to test your ability to get online before the first meeting, send an email to Julie Lytle, Executive Director, executive.director@province1.org.
