HARD CRAFTS: Participants will explore stone carving, typically grade 12 sculpting curriculum. Convex and concave polarities will be explored using alabaster and soapstone.
SOFT CRAFTS: In the 9th grade tailoring block we build on the skills students developed in 8th grade sewing. We still explore what it means to "clothe one's self", but now we can be more precise. Each student makes a shirt to fit his or her own body. This requires new skills such as measuring, fitting, altering the garment, as well as understanding more complex patterns and methods for construction. Other challenges include learning to make a collar, shirt facings and button holes. Each step requires considerable concentration and care to complete.
ANTHROPOSOPHY STUDY: Our Anthroposophy study will be a look at the Pedagogical Section's Core Principle #4, "Freedom in Teaching", and we will concentrate on Rudolf Steiner's book, "The Philosophy of Freedom".
