14th Annual
COMPREHENSIVE PLANNED GIVING SEMINAR

Thursday, September 10, 2015

Italian Conference Center, Milwaukee

Join the Planned Giving Council of Eastern Wisconsin for the 14th Annual Comprehensive Planned Giving Seminar featuring a great line-up of presentations.

Schedule of Events
8:00am – 8:30am    REGISTRATION AND CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST

8:30am – 9:15 am   BREAKFAST SESSION
Planned Gifting:  Turning Death and Taxes Dread Into Life and Gift Passion
Ray Odom, JD, CFP, Director of Wealth Transfer Services, Northern Trust

A traditional way to discuss post-mortem charitable gifts was to show prospects that they could reduce “death taxes”.  It was an easy conversation because most significant donors were subject to estate tax.  Now the $5,430,000 indexed federal estate tax exclusion has excluded over 99.6% of Americans from future federal death taxes. That is a good thing because neither death or taxes is a good catalyst for wealth transfer. This presentation will seek to reinvent the entire framework for what we call estate planning  to create  a compelling way to discuss, design and implement wealth transfers that should result in significantly more, and significantly higher, planned gifts to your organization.

9:30am – 10:30 am  BREAK-OUT SESSIONS

Option 1: Taking Charge: Women and Financial Empowerment
Cathy Steinhafel, JD, Director of Planned Giving, Marquette University
Kathy Klein, CFP, Consultant/Portfolio Manager, Park Place Capital Management Inc

Learn about trends of women’s growing financial influence in the country, as well as some tips and advice for helping women shape and reach their financial and charitable goals.

Option 2:  What You Need to Know About Donor Advised Funds
Cathleen Grady, Senior Relationship Manager, Schwab Charitable
Kathryn Leverenz, President & CEO, Waukesha County Community Foundation
Kathy Pederson, Vice President – Wealth Advisory, Jacobus Wealth Management, Inc.

Over the past ten years, donor advised funds at local community foundations and federations, and at financial services firms have grown dramatically. Today we have a panel of experts who work with these vehicles and will help us to understand similarities and differences of the vehicles offered by each entity.

10:45 - 11:45 am  BREAK-OUT SESSIONS

Option 1:  Marketing to Baby Boomers
Kathleen Dohearty, Managing Director,  Branigan Communications
Danielle Barr, Senior Digital Strategist, Branigan Communications

Baby Boomers are a powerful economic force and are likely your organization’s strongest planned giving prospects. Learn how this generation is different from the others you are engaging; how to target communications, including social media, that will resonate with members of this generation; and what you absolutely must do and – and not do – to cultivate them as planned gift donors.

Option 2: Medicare tax: Who’s Affected and How to Minimize it with Charitable Vehicles
David D. Scaife, Vice President, Regional Wealth Planner, The Private Client Reserve of U.S. Bank

Although a charitable contribution that is deductible under Section 170 can reduce an individual's income tax liability, the contribution has no effect on a taxpayer's liability under Section 1411 - the 3.8% Medicare surtax on net investment income.  The objective of this presentation is to show charitable planning techniques for charitably inclined individuals that can be used to reduce or eliminate the Medicare surtax.
