Healy Group Breakfast Club Seminar Series Presents: Preparing for DOL Audits

Join us for breakfast at the next Healy Group quarterly Breakfast Club Seminar discussing how to prepare for DOL Audits. The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL)-Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) audits and investigates employee pension benefit plans and employee welfare benefit plans in both civil and criminal investigations. Preparation for an audit can often be the difference between a process that is handled smoothly with the least amount of disruption to your business, and one that stretches for years and may even lead to civil or criminal litigation.

In this presentation, bring your questions for our experts, and learn about:

  • How a company may be targeted for an audit.
  • The scope of audits and investigations and coordination among different federal agencies.
  • The types of issues of particular significance and focus in an EBSA audit.
  • National Enforcement Projects, and EBSA's investigative emphasis.
  • How to manage and navigate the process with the least disruption to your business.
  • The types of penalties assessed and how to prevent their assessment.
  • The steps to expect in the audit or investigation process.

Speakers: Mina Amir-Mokri is a partner with Barnes & Thornburg LLP, resident in the firm's Chicago office. She has been in private practice for 15 years where she has represented sponsors of employee benefit plans before the U.S. Department of Labor, the Internal Revenue Service and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Amir-Mokri was an auditor for the U.S. Department of Labor-Employee Benefits Security Administration where she conducted civil investigations in Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana, and criminal investigations with federal prosecutors in the same region. Brian Casey is a partner with Barnes & Thornburg LLP, resident in the firm's South Bend office, and has been practicing for 20 years. He is a business litigator, with substantial experience representing clients in ERISA cases and related regulatory actions (both civil matters with the DOL and criminal matters).
